New Years Intensity

I'm not sure if many of you are aware, but I'm writing a book entitled "101 ways to go clubbing on ten bucks" so writing these reviews is all part of my research. This project started some 14 years ago and one of these days ill actually get around to finishing and publishing my book.

In the meantime, its always fun to try new ways to get into events for free. This one requires an extreme amount of confidence and arse, it's a modified version of the "carry the DJ's box in for him" trick. Don't try this at home kids! Bear in mind that I actually did have a ticket for this event, its just fun testing my ideas now and then….

I hurried ahead of my partner in crime to ensure that I entered the venue alone, and well, I cant reveal my secret weapon on this occasion, mainly because most of the promoters and club managers will have guts for garters (and my name removed of the guest list!!!!!!!). Lets just say it worked, and I walked in past the queue, ticket still in pocket and a tag around my wrist! Oh I is just such a clever girl sometimes……..

We did arrive reasonably and traditionally early as we wanted to make sure we didn't miss Hutcho and Mentals set. We also had a few things to organize for later on in the night, as usual, Weavy was up to his normal antics……… There was already a queue forming outside as I was pretty much right on 10pm when we arrived, just in time for the doors to open!

Seemed the crowd was up for one big night as many a punter arriving early to make sure they didn't miss a thing. I guess traditionally peeps don't arrive till about midnight, but seeing it was new years eve and midnight was a good time to already be settled into a nice groove on the dancefloor.

I spend the countdown in the outside arena, Weavy was on the decks for the countdown and dropped a shocker as expected, he played the Can Can remix by some group of cows…mooooooo…..was funny as heck and the crowd loved it.

Many a sparkler, lots of glowing in the dark stuff and ive never seen so many smiling faces in a long time! Not being too used to things cranking up so early was still warming up, didn't take me long and I was well in the swing of things!

I spent some time in the inside arena, it was not only jam packed, going off but bloody hot. So the time I spent was either dodging my way through to the unbelievably disgusting female toilets! (thanks guys for letting me use the males, for the first time in history the males toilets were actually more pleasant than the females!) or just doing my best to stay up on two feet on the slip n slide floor.

Opps didn't realise inside was no smoking…….. plead ignorance and smile nicely and it was no drama once I ditched my ciggie.

Had a laugh at Weavy scooting around the dancefloor, never tell him you're scared of clowns, like waving a red flag to a bull! He managed to complete a scoot between some lucky girl's legs, she even let out a squeal, think it's the baldhead! All the music I heard tonight at Intensity was awesome, the set up was bright bold and really happy! What an atmosphere……… New Years Eve is certainly one night everyone seems to let their hair down! In layman's terms, it was goin off both inside and out!

We had to leave about 1am to go to the Drum Clubs Trilogy, as I mentioned earlier, a cloning machine would have been bloody handy for this night, as I was invited to review four events, I only managed to physically attend two, and that was an effort considering one was at the Swan Barracks and the other at the Embassy Ballroom! It was a tough assignment, and feeling somewhat worn out from the weeks leading up to New Years, and as I'm constantly reminded, my age, I think I handled things pretty well!

After visiting the other event for a few hours, we returned to intensity to see how things were going there, and not much had changed. The dancefloor was still packed, both inside and out!

Kids you must learn to take your sunnies at these indoor/outdoor events!

A nice change, but for an all ages event I didn't feel like a granny for once! There seemed to be a great mix of young and old and I didn't get asked once what I was doing at an all ages rave!

Nice work once again XS, ya made my new years!
