If you've ever waited for DJ Hutcho to get ready and arrive to
an event on time, you will do well to understand why we didn't arrive
until 12.30am!
Upon arrival (finally!) I was pleasantly surprised at the new layout
of the Drum Club, which was once again taken over by the Elysium
crew for a night of 'ardcore, featuring LunaC from UK. The layout
is a huge improvement, apart from lack of stools for us oldies with
sore feet and the like. To keep in with my normal performance, I
had no idea who LunaC was and what he did nor played (apart from
the obvious, hardcore)
.. so I went about my normal business
of making a few discrete enquiries. "Anyone know who this LunaC
guy is?"
One of the promoters kindly pointed out who Luna C exactly was
in the crowd for me and I was shocked to find the man on the dancefloor.
So I marched straight up to him and tapped him on the shoulder
the
conversation went something like this
Naz "erm excuse me, but aren't you
a DJ?"
LunaC "yes I am"
Naz "well what the fuck are you doing
on the dancefloor and what on earth are you doing have fun and smiling?"
.*said
very sternly with a straight face*
LunaC stops dancing and just stands and stares at me blankly/confused
Naz "you are giving DJ's a bad name
all over" grabs his arm and drags him off the dancefloor
LunaC just keeps standing staring at me blankly/confused
Naz "hi I'm Naz and I'm interviewing
you later, are you scared?"
LunaC "no actually rather looking forward to it" jumps
straight back onto the dancefloor and continues to shake his booty
Well id made my entrance and got the formal introductions over
and done with, it was time to chill and enjoy the night myself.
Crowd wise seemed a little disappointing, although bearing in mind
the new layout of the club which is much more open and spacious,
it was still a reasonable crowd which did slowly improve up until
and including LunaC and the final sets played.
I wandered outside to see how the "outside crew" were
doing, and a local DJ and friend of mine was not happy, he'd left
his i.d. at home and the ever so efficient bouncers wouldn't let
him in. I gave it an attempt explaining not only was he 23 but his
name was on the guest list, to no avail. Funnily enough as I went
to go back into the club I was stopped and asked for i.d. After
I picked up my jaw from the ground, I realised at my expense the
bouncers had a good laugh out of it........ just as well, haven't
carried id with me since I was under age!
Its not very often I'm at the drum club and 1. I can sing along
to the words and 2. I get caught on the dancefloor. This night was
definitely one out of the norm for me personally, either this style
of music is growing on me or Its just been a while since ive actually
been out and about partying of late. Either way, It was a huge night!
Considering I knew some of the words I spent some of the evening
chasing around Pete to have a go with the mic. I can't understand
why they won't share! I even had to go and tell Assassin that Pete
wouldn't let me have a turn with the mic, his reply?
"can't
say I blame him Naz, cause I don't doubt if he did give the mic
to you, you'd use it!"
oh well, no
Mc'ing Naz style on this night!
LunaC took the controls and as I'm not a music critic nor am I
very educated musically, its not very often I personally can tell
the difference in styles and DJ's playing. But when a DJ gets me
up on the dancefloor at a 'ardcore or DnB night, they are doing
something right! It seemed different to the music I'm used to hearing
at these nights, but personally, I enjoyed it.
The crowd that had slowly but surely formed seemed totally up for
a massive night, and up until the nasty nasty man that turns the
lights on at the end of the night appeared, things were well and
truly pumping! I have to point out that turning those lights on
is just plain and outright damm mean and totally uncalled for! If
they asked nicely we would all just leave! Yea right!
Saturday night saw us at Dair's 21st birthday bash at the Cottesloe
Hotel Back room (private party) also featuring LunaC on the decks
again.
By the time we arrived, LunaC was just taking over and things were
well and truly messy. In true form we joined ranks at the bar and
'ad a great laff up until stumps. Things finished up at the Cott
about midnight and we ended up back at the Drum Club on Saturday
night for their opening night, I must have made an impression last
night because on entry the bouncers asked me if id actually been
home yet? and to the chorus's of "hi granny"... cheeky
buggers!
Not expecting to end up again at the Drum Club I was totally unprepared
and had no idea what I was in stall for. But was pleasantly surprised
to be entertained to some pretty groovy choons (trip hop I'm told!)
and breaks. I have to make special mention to the last set played
by two local boys, not being a fan of this style of music and after
the massive weekend id pulled off they totally rocked, these two
make a damm fine duo!
Now for recovery
.What a weekend!
Naz :)
