Two Tribes, Sunday March 3rd 2002.

Reviewer: Spunky Bec

On this balmy Sunday evening in March, the just formed Two Tribes Team 2002 (TTT02) set out to find peace, love, happiness in the music…
Upon arrival to Metro City, the surrounding areas were found to be cordoned off, helping traffic flow and keeping the venues as close as possible (Toy Shop, Metros and Old Berlin). Following the mandatory ID checks, ticket swaps for armbands etc., the TTT02 made their way into the building. It was filling fast! The local boys were doing an excellent job of keeping the crowd entertained while gradually warning them up, building on the growing excitement filling the air. The atmosphere was electric!

The TTT02 found a space on the main floor to boogie on into the night, waiting patiently for the arrival of the first main act - TIESTO!
Metro City was packed for the beginning of his set. The main floor was close to being described as a mosh pit, everyone moving in unison with no space to spare! The crowd was going wild!

After this much anticipated beginning to the main acts, the breaking of the ice so to speak, the TTT02 set off to find their peace, love and happiness while spreading the word " Two Tribes Perth 2002 is here and isn't it ace?!!"
From the Main room the TTT02 members were off to the Technique Progressive room to wait the arrival of Seb Fontaine. Again, the local boys were already pulling in the crowds. Everyone looked to be amped and ready for the night ahead. The room became a mass of sweltering bodies dancing to the great tunes picked out by the DJ's.
From here this TTT02 member began the great trek to meet and greet many new faces and catch up with all the long lost dance floor buddies. Everywhere the crowd was energised, the atmosphere can't be contained on the pages here. It was too much for words. I'm sure everyone attending the night felt this presence at some point during his or her night.

Next stop over the railway lines and to Globe for some drum and bass and breaks action. Upon entering Globe Upstairs, the electric atmosphere found across the train tracks could be felt just as strong here. The local boys again put on a good show with Ed Rush & Optical + MC Ryme Tyme pushing these die hard d'n'b fans to their limits! It seemed the euphoric vibe of the night was to be found everywhere…from behind the decks, on the dance floors to out in the street!
A sneak peak into the Breaks Space found it to be alive and kicking with that same vibe. The trip back over the tracks was a small respite either taking in the surroundings while strolling over the bridge and up the alleyway or taking the quick bus trip. There was a constant migration of people between the venues keeping the spirit alive throughout the journeys.

Back on the Northbridge side of the tracks things were still pumping. Time for some Techno action from none other than the 3-deck maestro - Jeff Mills. By this time people were finding their particular spot to boogie on into the early hours of Monday morning, whether it be techno, breaks, d'n'b, progressive or main room action. There was a wide variety to suit many different tastes of dance music. If u were up for it, it was possible to see a bit of everything for a short time and have a fantastic night!

The TTT02 became one again in the Main room for Judge Jules and John '00'Fleming. Still, the dance floor was packed. Looking up into the crowd to see a mass of bodies all moving the beat with smiling faces, waving hands, glowsticks; some content to wave their arms wildly, screaming, whistle blowing while others happy to bop around to the great tunes pumping out of the sound system. The atmosphere that built up from the beginning of the night continued throughout the early hours of the morning and was not lost to the sunrise (if u braved the brightness of it all and stepped out for a breather!)
Everywhere it seemed the crowd was growing stronger, gathering more energy from each other - pure ecstasy! (And no you didn't need the drug form of this!)

But just as it all seemed to good to be true…it all came crashing down around us. The end was here. The lights were switched on; no encore played. The mad, up for it crowd were left bewildered and dazzled wondering what was to come…

The end had come too soon for most, with nobody wanting to leave the dance floors. But even with al the cheering and clapping there was to be no more. The TTT02 were left to make the slow painful exit, shattered at how such a fantastic night could be ended all so suddenly but fulfilled in their hearts, minds, body's and souls that they'd had an awesome night to be remembered always as "up there with the best of 'em!"
The crowd slowly departed off to seek new adventures. The TTT02 split up each following their chosen path of recovery/continuation - at after parties, chill sessions recalling the evening and events gone by, possibly home to bed (???), all remembering the night as best they could.

I'd like to say a huge thank you to:- the great people who organised the event (did the setup and continued work throughout the night); all the staff - bar, lighting, sound etc. (it's great to walk up to a bar and be greeted with a smile!); the DJ's (without them the night would be pointless!); to the photographers/video crew etc.; the other people who made the night what it was. And an especially big thank you to the amazing, up for it, 'go hard or go home' crowd that made Two Tribes Perth 2002 an awesome night!

High Points of the evening:

· Local and international DJ's of the highest caliber mixing some great tunes.
· Setup/venue layout: lighting, sound, video
· The crowd!!! You all know who you are!
· The indescribable atmosphere - guess you just had to be there!
· And all the other stuff that went into making it a night to be remembered!

Low Points of the evening:

· It finished all too suddenly! Certain people in uniform put an end to the fun at 6am. No encore. The crowds were left lost on the dance floors; unable to comprehend it was actually all over.
· Techno room glitch - power cut/failure??? Wouldn't have been nice to be dancing one minute and be left in complete darkness the next. But it was sorted out promptly (add to high point - ability to handle problems fast)
· Miscellaneous lows for everyone but with the atmosphere they were sure to be forgotten quickly.
